Our Mission & Community

A school built on the belief that recovery and academic achievement aren't in competition — they support each other.

About Us

Ostiguy High School opened in September 2006 through a partnership between Action for Boston Community Development, Inc. (ABCD), the Gavin Foundation, and Boston Public Schools. We were one of the first three recovery high schools to open in Massachusetts, alongside sister programs in Beverly and Springfield.

Our mission is simple to state and hard to build: give students in recovery a safe, supportive community inside an academic and therapeutic environment, so they can earn their diploma without losing their sobriety in the process. All of our program staff are certified educators and recovery specialists, responsible for both a student's academic progress and their recovery support.

What We Believe

At Ostiguy, honesty and mutual respect are non-negotiable. Students commit — in writing, alongside their parents or guardians — to staying sober and supporting one another. That accountability is what makes the community work: everyone in the building has decided the same thing, and everyone is expected to help everyone else keep that decision.

DIGNITY —

every student is treated as capable of finishing school and building a life

to yourself, your family, and your peers

recovery is easier with people who understand it firsthand

a relapse is a setback to work through, not a reason to give up
